Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which station should I use – Iseshi or Ujiyamada?
A: Both work well. Iseshi is better if arriving by JR (JR Pass holders). Ujiyamada has more coin lockers and the historic station building is worth seeing.
Q: Can I walk from the station to Naiku?
A: Technically yes (about 50 minutes), but not recommended. Take the bus.
Q: Is there a direct bus from Nagoya to Ise Jingu?
A: No regular direct bus. Take the train to Iseshi/Ujiyamada, then the local bus.
Q: What’s the difference between routes 51 and 55?
A: Route 55 is slightly faster (via City Hall). Route 51 goes via Chokokan Museum. Both end at Naiku-mae.
Q: Should I visit Geku first or Naiku first?
A: Traditionally, Geku first. But if time is limited, Naiku is the main attraction.
Q: How early should I arrive to avoid crowds?
A: Aim for the first bus (around 6:50 AM). The shrine opens at 5 AM, but buses don’t run that early.
